Goodreads Synopsis: Getting happier isn’t that hard with Get Glad – Your Practical Guide To A Happier Life, a personal development book that leads you through scientifically proven ways to become a little bit happier day-by-day.

Author Harry Hoover says, “My purpose in life is to help others on their self-improvement journey. I believe that all people should have some measure of happiness in their lives, so I wrote Get Glad to show readers how to get happier.”

You’ve probably read other self-help books whose programs were too difficult to implement. This life-changing, motivational book will help you in your personal growth. Come with us on this simple, practical step-by-step journey down the road toward happiness.

My Thoughts: It’s a good book and a quick read with a super upbeat attitude and lots of little exercises or practices to help you focus on better things. One example is a Thankful  Journal where you write down three things in the morning that you are thankful for then three things that night that happened that made you happy that day. It’s a nice way to start and end your day positively.
A big component of Get Glad is being more mindful in your life. Taking the time to pause, to focus on something good, to spend more time doing what makes you happy, living with a purpose, making time for the important people in your life. It’s all great advice and the little exercises provided, like the Happiness Audit, helps bring focus onto the good which makes the bad more bearable or just plain vanish. Along with the mental component Get Glad also talks about the physical, like exercising or getting sun, and even chemical aspect of being happy, good ol’ dopamine for the win folks. Finally, even the dirty stuff is mentioned, like cleaning out the negative people or things in your life. Hoover touches on everything you can think of and then some.
My favorite aspect of the book is definitely the quotes at the beginning of each chapter, what can I say Neko is a sucker for good quotes. Lots of awesome and empowering people but also folks like Lucille Ball, my idol and role model ^_^
My favorite topic on the other hand, is the section about commitment and how it effects things. Committing to happiness is no different than committing to a spouse or your blog. Commitment is required to succeed at anything, but it doesn’t seem like many people recognize this anymore or practice it, especially when it comes to emotional well being.
This is another short read, around eighty odd pages, broken down into bite size chapters that allow you to read and then meditate on the points instead of inundating you with how to be happy. Baby steps for the win!

Overall be mindful of yourself and honest with yourself. If you are unhappy what will it hurt to give this title a try? I enjoyed the read, and hope you guys will too ^_^
