This week TheBrokeandtheBookish decided on Top Ten Of the most Unique Books I’ve Read! Wow, this could be interpreted so many ways! Let’s see how our daring duo tackles this monster.
Ugh, this one was hard. I went with books that felt unique that I’ve read recently. 🙂
This felt so different from any poetry book I’ve read. I loved it and went for a wild ride and felt very wrung out by the end in the best of ways. If anyone knows of any poetry books similar I’d love to hear about them so I can check them out.
This book was the first book that sucked me in the way it did. It felt fresh/unique and I can’t wait to read what’s next.
This book isn’t out yet but it was a very unique twist on the classic Beauty and The Beast.
This book was a romance but also extremely geeky and funny. It felt fresh and I wish I could find more books that are similar to this style of romance, I couldn’t stop laughing.
This book I found unique because of the concept, how often do you find books that talk about the tools and ideas to help you work less so you can do the things you love?
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
I have never read a book quite like this. Sure there are “quirky” titles out there but… Nothing really comes close to Adams. None of it makes sense, but the nonsense makes sense. You may not get the words but the sentiment is easily understood and it incredibly viable for the future.
Apocalypticon by Clayton Smith
Take hitchhiker’s and add the world ending but not in space. This is my family handling zombies, complete with posing with weapons to figure out which has the best effect. It is what to do, what not to do, and how to enjoy life. I’ve never read another book quite like this one, even when zombies weren’t included.
Politically Correct Bedtime Stories by James Finn Garner
Was anyone else raised on this book? This created a whole new genre where princesses didn’t need rescuing, a man’s sexist ways were pointed out and condemned, and where we found out that dwarfs have feelings too. Nothing before or after has ever compared to this little gem. This book contains the truth is a reminder of what true equality really looks like ^_^
The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
Another blast from the past where we learned it was okay to be yourself, that even princesses don’t have to follow all of the rules and conform. It probably isn’t the creator of the niche but it will always stand out in my mind as a unique take on the plain to princess story.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Yes, I just finished this book but it was a very unique take on the sociopath spouse. Hey we even end with the husband knowing everything! They admit that while they are horrible for each other they, at the same time, are the only one for the other. They make the other person better, bring out the best even. It was and will always be unique in my ledger.
So what books do you guys find as unique? Share in the comments!
